How lovely, reading a thread like this makes such a change from the normal futile comments you usually get this time of night on WHO. I will say a few words for your family tonight.

Ged!!! How are you mate? Do me a favour and can you put my post down below on top of my original post...

Thanks to everyone.

It's weird being part of the WHO family, we might bicker and fight and argue, but were all in the same boat....

Re: A very BIG thank you
After today being told a very close family friend has maybe days to live and having to see her in hospital and make a promise that bubbles will be played at her funeral this has put a right smile on my face. All the best for the next couple of weeks.

Irons forever!

Glad to hear he is being looked after and is on the mend. Make a fuss of the staff, they dont get the credit they deserve most of the time.

Re: A very BIG thank you
Jesus, what a great story.

All the best to you and your boy mate- reading between the lines it looks like the relationship you had with his mum didn't work out quite so well but it's hard for people like me to understand the pressure a life changing event puts on relationships.

It sounds like you and your boy's relationship has gone from strength to strength though. I guess that's the main thing.

There are not too many happy endings in life so when one comes along you have to embrace it. Like I say, all the very best to you and yours.

Re: A very BIG thank you
8 weeks ago I posted this and it is today that my son was finally discharged from BCH.

I can't thank the staff enough for their support and also for all your kind words and texts and whomails etc. I told him about them all.

Sorry for the long message but I want to explain what it's been like for him.

He had 2 lots of life saving emergency open heart surgery. He was then put on blood thinning drugs for life. A week in it cause bad bleeding and swelling in his brain and they had to stop the drugs.

The surgeons said in normal circumstance that they'd just put him in a coma for a week and drill into his brain and remove the clot and pressure but as he has had the surgery he has had there would be a 99 percent chance he wouldn't make it. We were told we would just have to hope he got better.

I asked the surgeon what we're the chances of that, and he just put his hand on my shoulder and said "I'm sorry"

It was the lowest point of my life.

He was so delirious he never knew who I was, what my name was, how old he was, what year it was, his birthday. Nothing.

The only thing he did know is when I asked him what are the best football team in the world? He always said "West Ham". It was our joke that he must be better and let me take him home as that's all that mattered.

He said to me as a kid once "Dad, do you know i'm a winner?" I asked why and he said "because winners never quit and quitters never win" he was 6 at the time

So when I was. Telling him to fight the bugs in his body and brain I always said what are you and he said a winner.

One night as I went for some dinner and told him to fight he said "I can't do it dad i'm going to quit" I really had a go at him and reminded him of what he was and we went over his saying. He ended after telling me he would fight and win.

There was one time when we were waiting for his scan results, they were a long time coming and the Chaplin came in, my ex mrs thought he was giving us the last rites.

He couldn't raise his arms or speak at this point.

As I embraced her and tried to convince her a voice from the bed said "dad get out the waay a minute" as I turned round he had his arms up, he hadn't been able to lift them until this point, and said "mum come over here". As she went over her cuddled her and told her "not to worry as I'm going to be alright"

I'm not just saying it but this boy is a miracle and is so strong and is my inspiration.

He had more chance of winning the euro millions twice than going through what he has, there is no other world that is recorded to go through what he has.

There is more to what has happened in the middle as you can imagine. But I wanted to give you an overview.

If any of you give blood and platelets. Thank you from the bottom of my heart as I have seen the good job you do, for those that don't please see if you can find time as you do really make the difference.

I will be doing some charity events with him and trying to get publicity and raise money for the BCH in the future and I'd really appreciate if you could support us.

We have our season tickets booked for the new stadium and look forward to showing him off then.

He walked out of hospital today, in his West Ham kit.

Thank you to the club for also sending him a card and a picture.

Thanks to you for reading and I'm sorry it's long.

Irons'ssssssssssss
Tm Ted

Could a mod please put. This on top of my original post. Thank. You
